Who we are

Each Sunday at 11 am we gather for Holy Eucharist to give thanks and praise to God, the Source of Life, and be renewed for the week ahead through worship, Anglican music, Holy Communion, and fellowship. Together we actively serve in our community and beyond, partnering with others to bring about a world of justice, peace, and love.

What we believe

We believe that “The mission of the Church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other through Christ. The Church pursues its mission as it prays and worships, proclaims the Gospel, and promotes justice, peace, and love” (The Book of Common Prayer, p. 855). We understand that “Grace is God’s favor toward us, unearned and undeserved; by grace God forgives our sins, enlightens our minds, stirs our hearts, and strengthens our wills” (BCP, p. 858). We celebrate that all people are made in the image of God and that Jesus embraces us all with arms of love. We have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit to help, guide, and empower us in our daily journey with Jesus. Our Sunday worship is rooted in Scripture and found in The Book of Common Prayer, along with the Daily Office, prayers, the Psalter, Catechism, and more. The text of the prayer book can be found online here: www.bcponline.org. As an Episcopal parish, St. Bernard’s is a member of the Diocese of New Jersey, The Episcopal Church, and the Anglican Communion, a world-wide fellowship of Christians whose faith and worship derive historically from the Church of England.

Affiliation between St. Bernard's Church and St. John on the Mountain

On October 1, 2023 the 2 churches, St. Bernard's and St. John on the Mountain, became affiliated, and the Rev. Elizabeth Rauen Sciaino became the part-time Rector of St. Bernard's, and the part-time priest-in-charge at St. John on the Mountain, splitting her time between both parishes.

Our Shared Vision
In this affiliation, we are guided by these shared values to:

• Serve as role models to the example and teachings of Jesus Christ;
• Work together, learn together and support each other through communication, cooperaration, and education;
• Learn from and deliver best practices from across our Diocese in worship, governance, stewardship, volunteerism, membership, development and spiritual growth.

At St. John on the Mountain, we celebrate Rite I Holy Eucharist at 7:45 am in the Chapel, and Rite II Holy Eucharist at 9 am in the Sanctuary, with the St. John's Choir.  Every third Sunday, Rite II is held in the Chapel.  The Rev.
