Tutoring Lab
Area students in grades K-8 may come for help with homework and general academic support every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3pm until 5:30 pm when the Somerset Hills School District is in session. This drop-in program is a free Somerset County YMCA program that is hosted and run by St Bernard’s Church at the Parish House of the church. Volunteer adult tutors assisted by volunteer high school tutors provide this academic support. All tutors complete the YMCA volunteer registration process. For the young elementary children who do not have homework the emphasis is on the development of reading and math skills through the use of grade-appropriate workbooks and other learning materials. Students have access to six supervised WI-FI enabled computers. Snacks are provided.
Do you enjoy helping young children? Can you spare a few hours to help elementary school children with their homework or learning to read? Do you want to feel good about giving a helping hand to some grateful children and their parents? The program organizers enthusiastically welcome new adult and high school student volunteer tutors. Please contact Jessica Bruno at the Somerset County YMCA (908 766 7898 ext 544) or Alison Davidson at St Bernard’s Church (908 766 0602).
