God's Giving Garden!
News from the Garden!

The Conover Collaborative Community Garden opened on Sunday, April 19, 2015! Soon, planning for God's Giving Gardens will be underway. A bit of history for those who are new to St. Bernard's or to this ministry: we started two gardens last year, in partnership with two other Conover Episcopal Churches, St. Mark's and St. John on the Mountain. Our smaller plot in Bernardsville produces food for a local Bernardsville Food Pantry. Our bigger garden is at the Ross Farm, 135 N. Maple Ave., in Basking Ridge. We have two wonderful additional partners for this larger garden, Somerset County and a private Board developing and rejuvenating the Ross Farm, called the Friends of Boudinot-Southard-Ross. Last year, our combined gardens produced around 1000 pounds of fresh vegetables and herbs for Somerset County food bank families to enjoy.
Last year, we tripled our growing space at the Boudinot Garden and produced well over our targeted "ton" of production! Work will soon be underway for this year's gardens. Volunteers are always needed through the spring and summer and into the fall to help with garden prep, planting, maintenance, and eventually harvesting of the gardens. We also need donations of seedlings, seeds, and supplies. If you are interested in helping, or have landscaping contacts who might donate, please contact Cathy Ferrara or our Parish Administrator.
It's impressive to think how many local churches are involved in our efforts. Thank you to all involved!
